Hotel Doolin Wedding. Hazel & Darroch.
A Perfect Venue: Hotel Doolin
Hazel and Darroch’s March wedding was a perfect mix of love, tradition, and stunning Irish scenery. From their hometown of Ballygar to the breathtaking coast of Doolin, every moment was special.
Hotel Doolin, known for its cozy atmosphere and award-winning hospitality, is one of Ireland’s top wedding venues. With its scenic location near the Wild Atlantic Way and focus on local, sustainable food, it was the perfect place to celebrate.
Morning in Ballygar & Church Ceremony
The day started at Hazel’s family home in Ballygar, just a two-minute walk from St. Mary’s Church, where their 12 PM ceremony took place. Instead of post-ceremony greetings, the couple hit the road straight after, making the 1 hour 50-minute journey to Doolin. This gave us plenty of time for relaxed photos before the reception.
Photoshoot: Doonagore Castle & Doolin Pier
The couple’s photoshoot took place at Doonagore Castle and Doolin Pier, with an overcast sky and stormy ocean creating a dramatic backdrop. The rugged coastline and historic castle made for timeless, breathtaking shots.
Reception & Dinner at Hotel Doolin
At Hotel Doolin, Hazel and Darroch had time to mingle before dinner. Guests enjoyed seafood, cheese, and fruit tables, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. The couple greeted everyone as they entered the dining room before we captured fun, fast-paced table photos—met with laughter and great energy. A big thanks to the amazing hotel staff, Sandra, Larry, Niamh, and the team, for their warm hospitality.
Sparkler Send-Off & First Dance
The evening ended with beautiful sparkler photos with guests, followed by Hazel and Darroch’s romantic first dance. Under the soft glow of lights, they shared a perfect moment, surrounded by friends and family.
A truly special day, filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories in one of Ireland’s most stunning locations.

Markree Castle Wedding | Sarah & Stephen
Stunning Castle Wedding Photography
Sarah and Stephen’s wedding at the extraordinary Markree Castle, in Collooney Sligo, was a stunning celebration of their love story. Booked well in advance, their wedding plans were set amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic, making their special day even more remarkable.
A Joyful Pre-Wedding Photoshoot
We had the pleasure of a lovely pre-wedding photoshoot in August, shortly after the first lockdown. Sarah and Stephen traveled from Dublin to Galway with their adorable dog, adding an extra touch of joy to the experience. Meeting up beforehand was essential to discuss their photo preferences and wishes, ensuring they felt comfortable and could enjoy their special day to the fullest.
A Perfect Winter Wedding
Originally planned for November, Sarah and Stephen’s wedding was rescheduled to December. The change only added to the excitement, and their beautiful day at Markree Castle was a tremendous success. This authentic Irish castle, featured in the Romantic Castles of Ireland hotel and venue portfolio, is located along the Wild Atlantic Way. With its stunning castle grounds, gardens, an onsite chapel, various ceremony locations, and 31 luxury en-suite bedrooms, Markree Castle proved to be the perfect wedding destination.
A Warm Welcome and Special Moments
Upon arrival at Markree Castle, we were greeted by sunshine and a warm welcome from Roisin, the resident dog. Roisin proved to be an excellent canine photo model and stayed by my side throughout the day. Later, she joined the bridal party for the Shamp-Shamp shoot, adding a touch of humour and joy to the proceedings.
An Intimate and Joyful Celebration
The wedding day was incredibly relaxed, intimate, and full of joy. Christmas decorations and the castle’s historic interiors added to the magical ambience of the ceremony held in the beautiful chapel. The entire event was a perfect blend of elegance and cheer, making Sarah and Stephen’s wedding at Markree Castle a truly unforgettable occasion.
"Alex was a pleasure to deal with, always polite and friendly, and so accommodating with our changes due to Covid. He got amazing photos from start to finish that captured all the laughter we had throughout the day and everyone commented on how well the photos turned out! We were even surprised to see some photos as we didn’t even notice him there at some points of the day. Would definitely recommend Alex, I don’t tend to photograph well but he somehow managed to get lovely photos!! We were also really surprised at how quickly we received the photos! Thanks so much Alex for all of your fantastic work – we love the photos!!"

Barberstown Castle Hotel Wedding. Sarah and Donal.
A Stunning Wedding Location
Sarah and Donal’s wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect, with warm sunshine on a beautiful April day at Barberstown Castle Hotel. This enchanting venue, surrounded by vast grounds full of trees, flowers, and plants, offers endless stunning backdrops for a wedding. Inside, the bright ceremony room, elegant reception area, and function room adorned with beautiful art, antiques, and furniture provided the perfect atmosphere for their big day.
The First Look
The morning began with a special moment. I met Donal as he took a calming walk with his parents and their dog under the blossoming cherry trees. He was preparing for the much-anticipated “first look” with Sarah. Their emotional first meeting under the graceful willow trees felt like a scene straight out of a fairytale, setting the tone for the rest of the day.
Photoshoot and Family Portraits
Sarah and Donal chose to do their formal photoshoot before the ceremony, a trend that’s growing in popularity. We captured some wonderful shots, filled with fun and laughter, before heading into the humanist ceremony beautifully conducted by Ciara O’Connor.

Your Ultimate Guide to Finding the Perfect Wedding Photographer in Ireland
Finding the perfect wedding photographer is like finding a needle in a haystack – only the needle is capturing the magical moments of your wedding day. With so many talented wedding photographers in Ireland, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you navigate the process with this relaxed and friendly guide. By the end, you’ll be ready to find the ideal photographer who’ll turn your wedding memories into beautiful, timeless images.
-
Understand Your Style
Before you start searching for a wedding photographer, it’s essential to pinpoint your preferred style. This will help you narrow down your options and find someone whose work resonates with you. Wedding photography styles vary widely, from traditional and posed to candid and documentary. Here’s a quick overview:
Traditional: Classic and posed, focusing on key moments and formal portraits.
Candid: Natural, unposed shots capturing genuine emotions and spontaneous moments.
Documentary: Tells the story of your day through a series of candid images, focusing on real moments and interactions.
Artistic: Emphasises creative compositions, often with a more stylised or conceptual approach.
Think about what appeals to you and how you want your wedding day to be remembered. If you love candid shots and real emotions, you might be drawn to the work of top-rated wedding photographers near you who specialise in this style. If a more traditional approach suits you, look for photographers who excel in capturing those classic moments.

-
Start Your Search
Now that you know your style, it’s time to start looking for wedding photographers in Ireland. A simple online search can yield a list of potential candidates, but don’t stop there. Dive deeper to find the best fit for your wedding.
Search Tips:
Use Keywords: Search for terms like “Irish wedding photographers” or “wedding photographers Ireland” to find local options.
Check Reviews: Look for top-rated wedding photographers near you and read reviews from previous clients. This will give you an idea of their reputation and customer satisfaction.
Ask for Recommendations: Reach out to friends, family, or your wedding planner for personal recommendations. They might have worked with excellent photographers who could be a perfect match for you.
-
Review Portfolios
Once you have a list of potential photographers, review their portfolios to get a sense of their style and quality. A portfolio will showcase a photographer’s best work and help you gauge whether their style aligns with your vision.
What to Look For:
Consistency: Check for a consistent quality of images throughout the portfolio. The best photographers will have a high standard in all their photos, not just a few standout shots.
Variety: Look for a range of photos, including different parts of the wedding day like the ceremony, reception, and candid moments. This will give you a sense of how they capture various aspects of the day.
Editing Style: Pay attention to their editing style. Do you prefer natural, unedited images, or are you drawn to more artistic, stylised editing?

-
Set Up Meetings
Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, arrange meetings with your top contenders. This is a crucial step in finding the right wedding photographer, as it gives you a chance to connect and discuss your vision.
Questions to Ask:
Experience: How long have you been a wedding photographer? What types of weddings do you typically photograph?
Package Details: What are your wedding photographer services? What’s included in your packages, and are there any additional costs?
Availability: Are you available on our wedding date? If not, can you recommend someone who is?
Backup Plans: What’s your backup plan in case of equipment failure or illness? How do you handle unexpected situations?
This is also an opportunity to see how comfortable you feel with the photographer. You’ll be spending a significant amount of time with them on your wedding day, so it’s important to choose someone who makes you feel at ease.
-
Review Contracts
Before you make your final decision, carefully review the contract. A clear and detailed contract protects both you and the photographer and ensures there are no surprises on the day.
Key Points to Check:
Scope of Services: Confirm what’s included in the package, such as the number of hours of coverage, number of photos, and whether there’s a second shooter.
Payment Terms: Understand the payment schedule, including any deposits required and the total cost.
Delivery Time: Find out how long it will take to receive your photos after the wedding and in what format they will be delivered (e.g., digital files, prints, albums).
Cancellation Policy: Know the policy in case you need to cancel or reschedule, and what happens if the photographer is unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.
-
Trust Your Instincts
After meeting with potential photographers and reviewing their work, trust your instincts. Choose someone who not only meets your criteria but also makes you feel comfortable and excited about your wedding photography. A good photographer will capture the essence of your day and make the experience enjoyable.
-
Final Preparations
Once you’ve selected your photographer, communicate your final plans and any specific requests. Share your wedding timeline, important details, and any must-have shots you want. This will help your photographer plan and ensure they capture everything you’ve envisioned.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right wedding photographer is essential for ensuring your special day is beautifully captured and remembered. By understanding your style, researching your options, and connecting with potential photographers, you’ll find someone who aligns with your vision and makes you feel comfortable. Whether you’re looking for a candid, artistic, or traditional approach, the right photographer will turn your wedding day into a collection of stunning, timeless images. Happy planning and best of luck finding the perfect wedding photographer!

Elopements in the West of Ireland: A 2025 Guide
Magical experience
Eloping to the west of Ireland offers a truly magical and intimate experience, perfect for couples seeking a breathtaking and stress-free way to say “I do.” With its dramatic cliffs, rugged coastlines, and rolling green hills, the scenery provides an unforgettable backdrop for a romantic and adventurous wedding day. The remote and peaceful locations allow for a private celebration, free from distractions, making every moment feel even more special.
Beyond the natural beauty, the west of Ireland is rich in culture and history, with ancient castles, historic ruins, and charming coastal villages adding a unique touch to your love story. Whether exchanging vows on a secluded beach, atop a windswept cliff, or beside a hidden waterfall, the experience is deeply personal and flexible, allowing couples to craft a day that truly reflects their connection.
Another advantage of eloping here is the ease of planning. Without the pressures of a large wedding, couples can focus on what truly matters—each other. The west of Ireland also offers incredible opportunities for photography, videography, and content creation, ensuring your special day is captured in stunning, cinematic beauty. From golden sunsets over the Atlantic to misty mornings in the mountains, every moment becomes a timeless memory.
Cliffs of Moher Elopement: Where to Go and What to Expect
The Cliffs of Moher are one of the most breathtaking and iconic locations along the Wild Atlantic Way, standing 214 meters (700 feet) above sea level. On a clear day, the views stretch across Galway Bay to the Aran Islands and the Twelve Pins mountains in Connemara. These dramatic cliffs have also been featured in several films, including Harry Potter.
Located in County Clare, the Cliffs of Moher are approximately a one-hour drive from Shannon Airport, 1 hour and 30 minutes from Galway, and just 15–20 minutes from Doolin or Ennistymon. They are also close to the village of Liscannor, making them easily accessible for visitors.
As of 2024, access to the cliffs is more restricted, with some cliff walks blocked. However, there are still opportunities to reach scenic viewpoints through private land near Hags Head, offering stunning views of the cliffs and O’Brien’s Tower—perfect for an elopement. This location is best suited for those who are comfortable with heights, strong coastal winds, and some light hiking, ensuring a truly unforgettable and wild experience.
Nearby spots for additional photo opportunities include Doonagore Castle, Doolin Harbour, and The Burren National Park.
Eloping to the Aran Islands
The Aran Islands offer an extraordinary setting for an elopement, with their untamed landscapes, ancient ruins, and deep cultural heritage. Inis Mór, the largest of the three islands, is a true gem of the Wild Atlantic Way, where rugged cliffs meet the crashing waves of the Atlantic. Among its many historical treasures is Dún Aonghasa, a breathtaking prehistoric stone fort dramatically perched on a 100-meter-high cliff edge—a setting as romantic as it is awe-inspiring.
Reaching Inis Mór is an adventure in itself. Ferries run daily from Rossaveel in Galway and Doolin in Clare, providing a scenic journey across the Atlantic. For those seeking a quicker route, a short flight from Connemara Airport offers stunning aerial views before landing on this enchanting island.
For couples drawn to the spiritual essence of the island, Celtic Monk and Priest Dara Molloy has been performing wedding blessings and ceremonies for over 30 years. His ceremonies, independent of any particular church, blend ancient Celtic traditions with the natural beauty of Inis Mór. Vow renewals and intimate wedding blessings can take place at St. Ciaran’s in Mainistir—an open-air site rich with history, featuring a holy well, a wishing stone, and an ancient altar. Alternatively, couples can exchange vows along the island’s serene beaches or dramatic cliff edges, creating a moment that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
Achill Island: Stunning Elopement Locations
Achill Island is a place of breathtaking beauty along the Wild Atlantic Way, where rugged mountains, pristine beaches, and dramatic cliffs exist in perfect harmony within a short distance of each other. This untamed landscape makes it an idyllic destination for an intimate and adventurous elopement.
The western end of the island is dominated by the majestic Croaghaun Mountain, home to some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, offering awe-inspiring views over the Atlantic. Nestled beneath it lies the secluded Keem Bay, a stunning, horseshoe-shaped beach with golden sands and turquoise waters, often named one of Ireland’s most beautiful coastal spots.
Achill is also home to Slievemore, the island’s highest peak at 671 meters, and Minaun, known for its panoramic views that stretch endlessly on a clear day. Whether exchanging vows on a windswept cliff edge, by a tranquil lake, or with the waves crashing nearby, Achill Island offers a truly magical and unforgettable setting for an elopement.
Connemara Elopements & Engagement Sessions
Connemara’s stunning landscapes make it a perfect setting for elopements and engagement sessions, with breathtaking locations like the Twelve Pins mountain range, Aasleagh Falls, and Lough Inagh Viewpoint. The dramatic peaks of the Twelve Pins create a wild and romantic backdrop, while the cascading waters of Aasleagh Falls add a touch of serenity and charm. Lough Inagh Viewpoint offers sweeping lake and mountain views, capturing the raw beauty of the west of Ireland. Whether at sunrise or sunset, these iconic spots provide an unforgettable setting for intimate celebrations and timeless photographs.
Planning Your West of Ireland Elopement
Whether it’s an elopement, vow renewal, or engagement photoshoot, I would love to offer an authentic photography experience, including extended drone footage and slideshow options. I can also guide you and connect you with trusted suppliers—from planners to celebrants – ensuring that every detail aligns with your vision for your perfect day.

Many couples find that having both photos and a video helps them relive their wedding memories from different perspectives. When looking for a wedding videographer in Ireland:
Check for Compatibility: Ensure that the videographer’s style complements your photographer’s approach. Coordination between the two can help ensure that both your photos and video are cohesive.
Discuss the Package: Understand what’s included in the videography package, such as the length of the video, the number of cameras used, and the delivery format.
Review Samples: Watch samples of their previous work to get a sense of their style and quality. Make sure it matches the type of video you envision for your wedding.

-
Planning Your Photography Timeline
To ensure that you get the most out of your photography, it’s important to plan a timeline for your photoshoots. Discuss this with your photographer to make sure you allocate time for:
Pre-Ceremony Shots: Capture moments of getting ready, including bridal preparations and the groom’s arrival.
Ceremony Photos: Plan for key moments during the ceremony, such as the vows, ring exchange, and first kiss.
Post-Ceremony Portraits: Allow time for formal portraits with family and bridal party, as well as creative shots at your chosen locations.
Reception Coverage: Ensure you have coverage for important moments like the first dance, speeches, and cake cutting.
-
Weather Considerations and Backup Plans
Dublin’s weather can be unpredictable, so it’s wise to have a backup plan for your photos. Consider the following:
Indoor Alternatives: If you’re planning an outdoor shoot, have an indoor location in mind just in case of rain.
Weather-Appropriate Outfits: Plan for weather conditions, especially if you’re having a winter wedding or an outdoor ceremony.
Communication with Your Photographer: Keep your photographer informed about any weather-related changes and discuss how they will adapt their approach.
