Check for Compatibility: Ensure that the videographer’s style complements your photographer’s approach. Coordination between the two can help ensure that both your photos and video are cohesive.

Discuss the Package: Understand what’s included in the videography package, such as the length of the video, the number of cameras used, and the delivery format.

Immersed in the Celebration

To truly capture the essence of a wedding, I immerse myself in the spirit of the occasion, becoming emotionally involved in the process. This emotional connection doesn’t happen with every wedding, but when it does, it elevates the experience for everyone involved. On this particular day, I felt a deep bond with Maggie and Philip, which made capturing their special moments all the more meaningful. For that, I am truly grateful and happy.

Morning Preparations

The day began with Maggie and her bridesmaids getting ready, surrounded by laughter and a few happy tears. Sorcha O’Dowd did a fantastic job with makeup and hair, ensuring everyone looked their best. The bridal suite at Ashley Park House buzzed with activity, with bouquets from A Room in Bloom adding a burst of colour and fragrance. Meanwhile, Philip and his groomsmen were getting ready in another part of the house, looking dapper in their suits from Jim McLoughney Menswear.

"From day one Alex was a gentleman to deal with. He was easy to contact and answered all our questions efficiently. On the day he was so friendly to everyone and just blended into the background when taking pictures. All our guests were so impressed with his friendly and professional nature. A couple that was at our wedding have since booked Alex for their own wedding having seen his calming nature. We are so thrilled with our pictures. He had the right mix of group shots, close ups, artistic views and just captured everything so well. The only difficult part was trying to pick photos for our album as they were all brilliant! We would 100% recommend Alex to anyone. He ticks all the boxes and overall is a lovely lovely person to have with you on such a special day."

Aran Islands Hotel Wedding. Irene & Ronan.

A Unique Wedding Destination

Irene and Ronan’s wedding in September took place at the beautiful Aran Islands Hotel, located on the stunning Inishmore Island, Galway. This unique destination can be easily reached by ferry from Rossaveal Harbour or Doolin, or by plane, making it a perfect escape for a wedding with a touch of adventure.

The Ceremony

Despite the wet weather, it was a warm and heartfelt day. The ceremony was held at the Church of St. Brigid & St. Oliver Plunkett, a lovely setting that perfectly suited the couple’s intimate celebration.

Wedding Theme & Colors

Irene and Ronan opted for a rustic theme, with sage and navy as their color palette. These elegant tones brought a natural charm to the bridal party and the day as a whole, reflecting the island’s earthy beauty.

The Photoshoot

While Inishmore offers breathtaking locations for photos, the unpredictable Irish weather kept us indoors for much of the day. We managed to capture a few moments outdoors before heading back to the reception, where the couple enjoyed quality time with their guests and family.

In Ireland, we know the weather can change quickly, so we waited for the perfect moment to continue the photoshoot. Special thanks to the hotel staff, especially Niall, who went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. He even took us to a few scenic spots in the hotel van, just minutes away from the venue, allowing us to capture some memorable images.

Celebrations

The evening was filled with energy, laughter, and amazing music by Sean O’Meara. Irene and Ronan, along with their wonderful guests, lit up the dance floor, creating unforgettable memories.

The Morning After

One of the highlights of staying at the Aran Islands Hotel is waking up to the breathtaking views of Inishmore Bay. The morning after the wedding was peaceful and sunny, allowing me to take some lovely drone shots of the stunning landscape before I left the island.

Irene and Ronan’s wedding was a perfect blend of natural beauty, heartfelt moments, and joyous celebrations. It was a true pleasure to be part of their special day!

Capturing the Essential Group Shots for Your Wedding Day

Your wedding day is one of the most magical days of your life, filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments shared with family and friends. Capturing these moments is essential, and group shots play a vital role in documenting the people who mean the most to you. Whether you’re planning a grand celebration or an intimate ceremony, these essential group shots will ensure your wedding photoshoot captures the essence of your special day.

Let’s dive into the must-have group shots to include in your wedding photoshoot, with some tips on making them natural, candid, and full of personality.

  1. The Entire Wedding Party

Start with the big one – the entire wedding party. This shot is a staple and includes bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, and page boys. It’s a fun and lively photo that showcases the people who have been by your side throughout the wedding planning journey. A natural wedding photographer will ensure this shot is relaxed and full of personality, capturing everyone’s unique quirks and the dynamic of your bridal party.

  1. Immediate Family Portraits

Immediate family portraits are priceless. These are the photos with your parents, siblings, and grandparents – the people who have supported and loved you unconditionally. Make sure to capture both formal and candid shots. A posed portrait is lovely, but candid wedding photography can capture true emotions and connections, such as a spontaneous hug or a shared laugh.

  1. Extended Family Gatherings

Extended family gatherings can be a bit more challenging to organise, but they are equally important. These photos often include aunts, uncles, cousins, and other close relatives. It’s a wonderful way to document the broader circle of loved ones who have come together to celebrate your special day. These group shots can be taken during the cocktail hour or just after the ceremony to ensure everyone is present and looking their best.

  1. Parents and Couple

Another must-have is a shot of the couple with their respective parents. These photos are often filled with emotion and pride, reflecting the joy and significance of the day. A natural wedding photographer will capture these moments beautifully, ensuring the love and happiness shine through.

  1. Generational Photos

Generational photos are a lovely way to honour the legacy of your family. These shots can include the bride and groom with their parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents if possible. It’s a powerful reminder of the enduring nature of family and love, making it a treasured part of your wedding photoshoot.

  1. Bride and Bridesmaids

A classic shot that’s always a hit – the bride and her bridesmaids. These photos are often some of the most fun and creative, capturing the close bond between the bride and her best girls. Whether you’re posing with bouquets or caught in a candid moment of laughter, these photos are essential for any wedding album.

  1. Groom and Groomsmen

Equally important are the photos of the groom and his groomsmen. These shots can be as formal or as relaxed as you like. From buttoning up jackets to sharing a toast, capturing the camaraderie and friendship between the groom and his best men is a must.

  1. Couple with Children in the Wedding Party

If you have little ones as part of your wedding party, such as flower girls and page boys, make sure to get some adorable group shots with them. Children bring a delightful energy to wedding photos, and their natural, uninhibited joy is something you’ll want to remember.

  1. Reception Group Shots

As the night progresses and everyone lets loose, don’t miss the opportunity for some lively reception group shots. Whether it’s on the dance floor, during toasts, or around the tables, these photos capture the energy and excitement of your celebration. Candid wedding photography is perfect for these moments, capturing the genuine joy and festivities of the evening.

  1. Couple with the Officiant

A quick but important shot is the couple with the officiant. This person played a pivotal role in your ceremony, and having a photo with them is a nice way to remember the significance of their contribution to your day.

Tips for Capturing Perfect Group Shots

Now that we’ve covered the essential group shots, here are some tips to ensure everything runs smoothly and your photos turn out beautifully:

Plan Ahead: Work with your photographer to create a shot list ahead of time. This ensures you don’t forget any important group photos on the day.

Coordinate with Your Wedding Planner: If you have a wedding planner, they can help coordinate the group shots, ensuring everyone is in the right place at the right time.

Keep it Natural: Encourage your photographer to capture candid moments as well as posed shots. Natural wedding photography often results in the most heartfelt and genuine images.

Practical Tips for Choosing Your Venue

  1. Visit the Venue

Always visit the venue before making a decision. Pay attention to the lighting, both indoors and outdoors, and think about how it will affect your photos. Look for natural light sources, scenic views, and beautiful architecture that will enhance your pictures.

  1. Consider the Layout

The layout of the venue is important for both the flow of your day and your photography. Ensure there are multiple photogenic spots to capture different moments, from the ceremony to the reception. Check if there are any restrictions on where your photographer can go, as this can impact the variety of shots you get.

  1. Think About the Weather

While you can’t control the weather, you can choose a venue that offers good options regardless of the conditions. For summer and spring weddings, make sure there are shaded areas or indoor spaces to escape the heat. For autumn and winter weddings, ensure there are cosy indoor areas that can accommodate your guests comfortably.

  1. Ask About Photography Policies

Some venues have specific policies regarding photography. Make sure to ask about any restrictions or requirements, such as whether drone photography is allowed or if there are any areas that are off-limits. Knowing this in advance will help your photographer plan and ensure they can capture all the moments you want.

  1. Personalise Your Venue

Choose a venue that reflects your personality and the theme of your wedding. Whether it’s a quirky, artsy location or a classic, elegant setting, the right venue will enhance the overall feel of your wedding and make your photos truly unique. Trendy wedding photography thrives in venues that offer unique and visually appealing backdrops.

  1. Evaluate Lighting and Setting

The natural light at your chosen venue can dramatically impact your wedding photos. Consider how the lighting will work with your planned photography style.

Outdoor Venues: If you’re opting for an outdoor ceremony or reception, think about how natural light will play into your photos. Golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) offers the best light for stunning photographs.

Indoor Venues: For indoor settings, consider venues with large windows or access to natural light. High ceilings and elegant decor can add a touch of grandeur to your photos.

  1. Think About the Flow of Your Day

The layout and flow of your venue can affect how your day unfolds and how well your photographer can capture it. Think about the following:

Ceremony and Reception Locations: Ensure that the ceremony and reception areas are easily accessible and flow smoothly. This can make it easier for your photographer to capture candid moments and transitions.

Photo Opportunities: Look for venues that offer diverse photo opportunities. Gardens, grand staircases, and unique architectural features can provide beautiful backdrops for your wedding photos.

  1. Consult with Your Photographer

Once you’ve narrowed down your venue options, it’s a good idea to consult with your wedding photographer. They can offer valuable insights into how different venues will work with their shooting style. A seasoned wedding photographer in Ireland will be familiar with various venues and can provide recommendations based on your specific needs.

Site Visits: Arrange for your photographer to visit the venue with you. They can assess the lighting, suggest optimal photo spots, and help you plan the timeline for your shoot.

Portfolio Review: Ask your photographer if they have worked at your chosen venue before. Reviewing their past work can give you an idea of how they’ve utilised the space for previous weddings.

  1. Consider Weather and Season

Irish weather can be unpredictable, so it’s wise to have a backup plan in case of rain or adverse conditions. Consider how different seasons will affect your photos:

Spring and Summer: These seasons offer longer daylight hours and more vibrant outdoor settings.

Autumn: The changing foliage can provide a beautiful, warm backdrop for your photos.

Winter: A winter wedding can be magical, with festive decor and potentially snowy landscapes, but be prepared for shorter days and colder weather.

  1. Think About Guest Comfort

While the focus is on getting the perfect photos, don’t forget about the comfort of your guests. Choose a venue that offers ample space, convenient facilities, and easy accessibility for everyone attending your wedding.

  1. Budget Considerations

Finally, consider your budget. Different venues come with varying price tags, and some may offer additional services like catering or decor that could affect your overall costs. Make sure your chosen venue fits within your budget while still offering the features you want for beautiful wedding photos.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the perfect wedding location and venue in Ireland is an exciting part of the planning process. By considering your vision, exploring iconic locations, evaluating lighting and settings, and consulting with your photographer, you’ll find a venue that provides the perfect backdrop for stunning wedding photos. Whether you’re dreaming of a grand castle in Kilkenny or a coastal celebration in Kerry, Ireland has a venue to match every vision. Happy venue hunting and best of luck with your wedding planning!
